Tokayev instructs government to address environmental issues in MangystauIndustrial enterprises must strictly adhere to environmental requirements, and special attention must be paid to resolving environmental issues in the Mangystau region, said President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev during a meeting on the socio-economic development of the Mangystau region."Special attention must be paid to solving the region’s environmental problems. There are many industrial enterprises around the regional center. Strict control over their compliance with all environmental standards is necessary. The issue of reclaiming the Koshkar-Ata tailings storage facility, which holds 105 million tonnes of waste from three plants of the Caspian Mining and Metallurgical Complex, has remained unresolved for a long time," Tokayev said.Additionally, according to the head of state, over 200,000 tonnes of solid household waste are stored at the region’s landfills, and there are also unauthorized dumpsites. The region has 68 illegal dumps, 60 of which have been eliminated, while 8 remain on private entrepreneurs’ territories."All these problems negatively impact people’s quality of life. The government, together with the regional akimat, must take comprehensive measures to resolve them urgently. As part of the Clean Kazakhstan initiative, work on improving settlements must continue. More trees should be planted in Aktau. Cleanliness is an important value that must become a quality inherent to our people," Tokayev added. (ICE ALMATY)
