ETHIOPIA: FEDERAL HOUSING CORPORATION PARTNERS WITH AUSTRIAN FIRM TO INTRODUCE 3

The Federal Housing Corporation has signed an agreement with Baumit Group, a leading Austrian construction technology company, to bring advanced 3D construction printing technology to Ethiopia. The partnership follows discussions held in Austria between the Corporation’s CEO, Ato Reshad Kemal, and senior executives of Baumit Group on the feasibility and implementation of 3D printing technology in Ethiopia’s construction sector.Ato Reshad also attended the International Exhibition of Construction Machinery and Technology in Munich, Germany, as part of efforts to expand the Corporation’s exposure to global innovations and construction solutions. The introduction of 3D construction printing marks the third modern building technology adopted by the Corporation. Previously, it implemented aluminum formwork construction systems imported from South Korea in collaboration with Ovid and is currently working with Italian firm Wanco to roll out precast construction technology.According to the Federal Housing Corporation, the adoption of 3D construction printing is expected to play a transformative role in addressing Ethiopia’s growing demand for modern and efficient construction methods. Technology can reduce construction costs by more than 50 percent compared to traditional methods and allows for the realization of complex architectural designs. Moreover, the system makes use of 98 percent of locally sourced materials. It is also projected to shorten construction timelines, enabling the completion of large-scale housing and infrastructure projects within months. The Corporation stated that the agreement with Baumit was a major step forward in closing the gap in construction technology supply and meeting the country's expanding urban development needs.
