PM HASSAN SAYS WASHINGTON VISIT “PRODUCTIVE”, HIGHLIGHTS STRENGTH OF U.S. TIES

Prime Minister Jafar Hassan said on Wednesday that his recent visit to Washington was “constructive and fruitful,” crediting the efforts of King Abdullah II in strengthening the long-standing strategic partnership between Jordan and the United States.Speaking during a cabinet session, Hassan emphasized the importance of boosting bilateral relations, particularly in the economic, trade, and investment sectors, noting that ties between the two countries have significantly advanced over the past two decades.Hassan pointed to the U.S.-Jordan Free Trade Agreement, in effect for over 20 years, as a model of successful economic cooperation. “It has expanded trade between our countries and stands as one of the most effective results of His Majesty’s early initiatives,” he said, adding that Jordan is seeking to broaden its commercial ties with the U.S. in ways that benefit both nations. The prime minister also noted a clear commitment from Washington to supporting Jordan and recognizing its regional role. “We will continue joint efforts and further dialogue with the American side to deepen this partnership and explore new areas of cooperation,” he said.Hassan said discussions in Washington also touched on regional developments, with a particular focus on the war in Gaza. He reiterated Jordan’s call for an immediate ceasefire and the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid to the besieged territory, as well as support for Palestinians to remain on their land.He added that the visit built on the recent meeting between King Abdullah II and U.S. President Donald Trump, underlining the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation in line with mutual interests and regional stability.
