INDONESIA SEEKS EXTERNAL FUNDING FOR GEOTHERMAL PLANT IN MALUKU

PT PLN, Indonesia's state power utility company, is working on securing multiple funding sources for the development of a geothermal power plant (PLTP) in Maluku, in line with the directive of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia. The funding will come from both internal allocations and external sources, including grants from national and international financial institutions. PLN is committed to supporting Indonesia's energy transition by developing renewable energy-based power plants, such as geothermal, and already holds two geothermal working areas (WKP) in the region, Tulehu Ambon and Wapsalit in Buru. PLN is currently conducting a joint study with potential partners to determine the best development strategy for the Maluku geothermal plant. This study is expected to conclude by July 2025, with the signing of a Geothermal Exploration and Energy Conversion Agreement (GEECA) planned for the fourth quarter of 2025. Initial funding for upstream activities like exploration drilling will be covered by the partner, while PLN will handle licensing, land acquisition, and the construction of the downstream power plant.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/4110/investment-and-risk/pln-boosts-green-energy-push-with-geothermal-plant-in-maluku-eyes-external-funding (ICE GIACARTA)
