QazaqGaz and KOR to begin exploratory drilling in Shalkar field in June 2025National Company QazaqGaz and its strategic partner KOR Oil Company JSC plan to start in June 2025 drilling an exploratory well in the Shalkar field in the Aktobe region, QazaqGaz said in a press release.According to the press release, QazaqGaz CEO Sanzhar Zharkeshov met with KOR shareholders on Wednesday to discuss key aspects of the projects at Shalkar (Aktobe region) and Akkuduk (Mangistau region).Marat Nurpeisov, the general director of Shalqar Energy, said that geological and preparatory work in the Shalkar field had been completed. The drilling locations were determined based on the reprocessed seismic data for 2016, the analysis of similar fields and basin modeling."The drilling of the first exploratory well is scheduled to begin in June 2025," the press release says.In November 2024, National Company QazaqGaz JSC and its strategic partner Oil Company KOR JSC signed a contract for subsoil exploitation of hydrocarbon at the Shalkar site in the Aktobe region. The document was signed by Deputy Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kudaibergen Arymbek, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors for Geological Exploration and Prospective Projects of QazaqGaz JSC Ulan Burkitov and Director General of Oil Company KOR JSC Daulet Uzakov.The contract was concluded in the form of an Improved Model Contract (IMC), which provides for preferences at the production stage, making gas projects economically attractive and also emphasizing their strategic importance for increasing gas production in the country.The contract is QazaqGaz's first exploration project after it was granted the status of a national hydrocarbon company, the statement said.KOR JSC is a domestic oil company with more than 25 years of experience in the field of subsoil use.QazaqGaz is a portfolio company of the State Fund Samruk-Kazyna. The company manages the centralized infrastructure for the transportation of commercial gas through main gas pipelines and gas distribution networks, provides international transit and is engaged in the sale of gas on the domestic and foreign markets, develops, finances, builds and operates pipelines and gas storage facilities.
