Ethiopia is positioning its livestock industry as a high-potential investment frontier, driven by vast opportunities for growth and profitability, according to the Livestock and Fishery Resources Development (LFRD) division at the Ministry of Agriculture.Tsigereda Fekadu, Lead Executive for LFRD, revealed that the government is introducing major reforms to unlock the sector’s untapped potential. With one of Africa’s largest livestock populations, Ethiopia aims to become a regional hub in animal husbandry and veterinary services. The sector has a critical contribution of 26 percent to the agricultural GDP.To boost productivity, the ministry has launched value-chain initiatives in feed production, breed improvement, and transportation of livestock products. The government is also introducing incentives such as land access, tax holidays, and detailed guidance for investors.
