HCM CITY TO ENHANCE AIR QUALITY MANAGEMENT FOLLOWING CONCERNS
In response to growing public concern over deteriorating air quality in HCM City, the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment has issued a statement detailing ongoing efforts and proposed solutions to combat atmospheric pollution.According to the department, primary sources of air pollution in HCM City include emissions from motor vehicles, industrial production, construction activities, and waste burning. The city, accommodating over 10 million people and nearly 9 million vehicles, faces significant challenges in reducing pollutants from transport and industrial operations.City authorities have implemented several measures. These include intensifying monitoring efforts, particularly at construction sites, and encouraging the adoption of environmentally friendly construction methods. Authorities are also increasing inspections and urging industries to shift toward cleaner production technologies.Furthermore, the department coordinates with relevant units to enhance air quality monitoring systems. Plans are underway to expand the current network of fixed monitoring stations and deploy additional mobile units for real-time assessments across different districts.The city also intends to strengthen public communication, raising awareness about the health impacts of air pollution and promoting behavioural changes among residents.
