INDONESIAN GOVT EXPLAINS DELAY IN PROVIDING INCENTIVES FOR HYDROGEN INDUSTRY

Indonesia's Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, stated that the Indonesian government will issue policies on hydrogen production and utilization only after clear market potential is established. Currently, regulations only cover electric vehicles, with no existing framework for hydrogen-based vehicles. Speaking at the Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit & Exhibition 2025, Bahlil emphasized that policy development will follow once there is significant interest and usage in hydrogen vehicles, allowing the government to assess and adapt accordingly. He also noted that the government remains open to providing incentives for hydrogen car manufacturers in the future, once companies show interest in investing and building factories in Indonesia. Incentive schemes would be tailored to match manufacturers’ needs and the government’s fiscal capabilities. Highlighting hydrogen’s role in reducing fuel imports, Bahlil explained that Indonesia currently imports around 1 million barrels of oil per day, and exploring alternative fuels like hydrogen, B40, and electric vehicles is crucial for national energy security.Source: https://katadata.co.id/ekonomi-hijau/energi-baru/67fe0a79c2b37/bahlil-ungkap-alasan-pemerintah-belum-berikan-insentif-industri-hidrogen-di-ri (ICE GIACARTA)
