INDONESIA'S AUTOMOTIVE MARKET SLOWS, CAR SALES DROP IN Q1-2025
Indonesia's four-wheeled vehicle market experienced a slowdown as of March 2025, marked by declines in both wholesales (factory to dealer) and retail (dealer to consumer) sales, according to data from Gaikindo. Wholesales dropped by 5.1% year-on-year to 70,892 units compared to 74,720 in March 2024, and fell 2% month-on-month from February 2025. Retail sales saw a 6.8% year-on-year decline to 76,582 units but posted a 9.6% increase month-on-month, indicating a slight recovery in consumer purchases despite broader market challenges. This performance dip is notable as the first quarter typically sets the tone for annual sales momentum, raising concerns for the automotive sector’s 2025 targets. Toyota continued to dominate the market with 22,476 wholesales and 24,514 retail units in March 2025, followed by Daihatsu and Honda. Notably, new entrant BYD recorded a strong wholesales performance with 3,205 units, although it has yet to break into the top 10 in retail sales. The market slowdown may signal upcoming hurdles for the industry in maintaining growth through the rest of the year.Source: https://industri.kontan.co.id/news/pasar-otomotif-melambat-penjualan-mobil-turun-di-kuartal-i-2025 (ICE GIACARTA)
