INDONESIA’S MEDICAL DEVICES SECTOR GEARS UP FOR GLOBAL EXPANSION
Indonesia’s medical device industry is gaining strong momentum, driven by ambitious government reforms, digital health innovation, and rising healthcare demand. The administration has allocated IDR 218.5 trillion for 2025 to expand universal healthcare access, modernize hospitals, and improve national health resilience. With over 270 million people enrolled in the JKN national health insurance, the demand for modern medical equipment—especially in underserved regions—is accelerating. While imports still cover 70% of the USD 2.3 billion market, this figure is gradually declining due to the TKDN (Domestic Component Level) policy, which mandates local content in public procurement. As a result, local production reached USD 1.4 billion in 2024, and joint ventures with companies like GE and Kalbe are helping meet compliance. Digital transformation is further reshaping the sector. The Ministry of Health's Satusehat platform now connects 98.6% of healthcare institutions, and telemedicine services reach 15 million people, driving demand for compatible medical devices. Innovative Indonesian manufacturers like Onject are gaining recognition, while global players such as Siemens Healthineers support the digital shift. Despite external challenges like U.S. tariffs and infrastructure gaps, the sector attracted IDR 1.25 trillion in investment in 2024 and continues to receive export financing support. With an 8% growth target for 2025, the industry is steadily moving toward reducing dependency on imports and strengthening its global competitiveness.Source: https://business-indonesia.org/news/made-in-indonesia-medical-devices-sector-poised-for-global-reach (ICE GIACARTA)
