INDONESIA EYES US OIL, GAS INVESTMENT AMID TARIFF DISPUTE
Indonesia is exploring investment in the U.S. oil and gas sector as a strategic entry point to strengthen bilateral economic ties and respond to the 32% import tariff imposed by the U.S. on Indonesian goods. Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming, Todotua Pasaribu, stated that state-owned enterprises, particularly Pertamina and its subsidiaries, already have international experience, making them strong candidates for expanding into the U.S. market. Planned investments could include oil and gas well acquisitions, offshore refinery development, and other upstream to midstream activities. These efforts are expected to be more dynamic with the support of the newly established Danantara Investment Management Agency. In addition to energy, the Indonesian government is eyeing the information technology sector, particularly AI-based companies in the U.S., as a means to advance Indonesia's research and innovation capacity. Pasaribu highlighted that strategic investments in foreign IT firms could yield long-term returns by supporting domestic research and development efforts. While specific companies were not named, the investment approach may involve a mix of direct investment and strategic partnerships.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/351693/indonesia-eyes-us-oil-gas-investment-amid-tariff-dispute (ICE GIACARTA)
