KAZAKHSTAN-TOKAYEV-TRUMP-TARIFFS

Tokayev applauds Trump's 90-day tariff moratoriumPresident of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to impose a 90-day pause on tariffs, the press service of the Kazakh president said in a Friday press release.Addressing the current turbulence in global markets during a public meeting in Shymkent on Friday, Tokayev warned that trade wars would ultimately affect all nations."At the same time, we welcome President Trump's rational decision to declare a 90-day moratorium, allowing time to clarify positions of all parties involved in trade disputes and to initiate negotiations where possible. Experts warn that reciprocal tariffs could trigger a severe global economic downturn and irreversibly undermine international trade rules, with potentially grave consequences including armed conflicts," Tokayev said. The president noted that earlier this week key market indices had hit lows with oil prices dipping below $60 per barrel, but markets rebounded following Washington's tariff delay announcement."Global stock and commodity markets are experiencing unprecedented volatility, though some stabilization signs are emerging. The world is clearly shifting toward serious confrontation as far as tariffs are concerned. This isn't merely another recession – we're potentially facing a fundamental crisis threatening the foundations of the global economic system, with severe implications for international relations," the Kazakh president said. The Kazakh leader assured that his government is closely monitoring developments and preparing for various scenarios."No matter how challenging the situation may become, Kazakhstan will remain committed to its modernization strategy. We'll continue implementing major infrastructure, transport, industrial, agricultural, digitalization and other projects. And of course, our government will fulfill all social commitments," Tokayev said.On April 9, President Trump suspended planned tariff increases for 90 days on imports from over 75 countries requesting negotiations. During this period, affected nations will pay reduced tariffs of 10%. (ICE ALMATY)
