US TARIFFS MAY CUT INDONESIA’S GROWTH BY 0.5 POINTS

Planned U.S. tariffs could reduce Indonesia’s potential GDP growth by 0.3 to 0.5 percentage points, according to Indonesia's Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati. However, she welcomed a 90-day pause in the tariff implementation, saying it provides a valuable window to find solutions and reduce the risks to the country’s economic outlook. Speaking during the ASEAN Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting in Malaysia, she emphasized that the pause offers a chance to avoid or mitigate the negative impact of trade tensions on Indonesia’s economy. Indonesia, which recorded 5.03% GDP growth last year, has set a 2025 target of 5.2%, with President Prabowo Subianto aiming for 8% growth by 2029. While the U.S. was Indonesia’s third-largest export destination in 2024, with shipments valued at US$26.3 billion, Indonesian authorities believe the overall economic impact of the tariffs would be limited, given the country’s strong reliance on domestic consumption rather than exports.Source: https://www.businesstimes.com.sg/international/us-tariffs-may-cut-indonesia-growth-0-5-percentage-points (ICE GIACARTA)
