China's SUS Environment Co. may build $270 mln waste-to-energy plant in AlmatyKazakhstan's first waste-to-energy (WtE) plant may be built in Almaty under a proposed $270 million investment by China's Shanghai SUS Environment Co., Ltd., National Company Kazakh Invest announced Thursday.The project, discussed between Kazakh Invest CEO Yerzhan Yelekeyev and Shanghai SUS Environment Co., Ltd. President Long Jisheng, would daily process 2,000 metric tonnes of municipal solid waste, generating up to 60 MW of electricity – enough to power a significant portion of the city's needs.The project will create hundreds of new jobs, attract advanced technologies, and include knowledge transfer and personnel training, according to a press release published by Kazakh Invest.Electricity will be generated by incinerating solid household waste using SUS Environment’s patented high-efficiency technologies, which meet European environmental standards. The energy efficiency of such facilities reaches 26%, exceeding the industry average.“The company has already presented a preliminary feasibility study and architectural concepts developed in collaboration with France’s AIA Life Designers and China’s Wintop Design. SUS Environment plans to sign an Investment Agreement with the Government of Kazakhstan,” the press release says.Shanghai SUS Environment, the Chinese market leader in WtE solutions, owns and operates assets worth over $5.2 billion in ten countries, with over 3,500 employees. The company has put into commercial operation 84 projects with total daily processing capacity of 110,000 tonnes of domestic waste, producing 18 billion kWh annually.Kazakh Invest National Company is the national investment agency with the mission to promote non-commodity exports and attract foreign investors.
