INDONESIAN GOVT TO ESTABLISH 20,000 HECTARES OF FISHPONDS THIS YEAR

The Indonesian government plans to establish fishponds covering a total area of 20,000 hectares on Java Island by the end of 2025 to support food sufficiency, particularly as a source of protein. Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan, stated that this initiative would involve revitalizing old, abandoned fishponds along Java’s northern coastal region, which were previously used for tiger prawn cultivation. Outside Java, the government also plans to build new ponds for shrimp farming and other purposes to support capture fisheries. Minister Hasan emphasized the establishment of feed factories to support chicken and fish production, which would also purchase corn directly from farmers. This move aims to prevent feed prices from being controlled by a few players, making it more affordable and competitive. The revitalization and development of these fishponds and feed factories are part of the government's broader strategy to enhance food security and support local agriculture.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/350957/indonesian-govt-to-establish-20000-hectares-of-fishponds-this-year?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=mobile&utm_campaign=latest_category  (ICE GIACARTA)
