IRAQ INTRODUCES VERTICAL FARMING TO BOOST AGRICULTURAL EFFICIENCY

Iraq's Ministry of Agriculture has announced plans to implement vertical farming as part of efforts to optimize land use and reduce reliance on chemical fertilizers.Deputy Agriculture Minister Mahdi Sahar told the state-run Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the technique involves growing crops in stacked layers, using hydroponics and aeroponics instead of soil. This method eliminates the need for chemical fertilizers while enabling year-round cultivation in a controlled environment.Environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, and ventilation will be regulated to enhance productivity, with potential integration of fish farming, where fish waste serves as a natural fertilizer. The initiative is expected to improve food security and agricultural sustainability in Iraq.
