Farmers in Kazakhstan to be allowed to operate agritourism businessesThe government of Kazakhstan will allow farmers to engage in agritourism as part of a broader effort to revitalize rural areas and create new jobs, Tourism and Sports Minister Yerbol Myrzabosynov announced Tuesday."We will grant farmers the right to engage in agritourism on their land. Currently, there are over 200,000 peasant farms in the country. This measure will help create additional jobs for rural residents and improve the well-being of rural communities," Myrzabosynov said at a Tuesday meeting of the government. The initiative is part of a wider legislative push to expand Kazakhstan’s tourism sector. A draft law under consideration in the Majilis, the lower house of parliament, would empower local authorities to develop tourist infrastructure outside city limits, including in national parks."This is a key proposal that has been thoroughly reviewed. It will facilitate infrastructure growth in major tourist destinations. A dedicated budget program will be adopted to fund tourism-related construction projects. Additionally, the government is considering establishing specialized tourism departments in the regions. Only five regions currently have such departments, and another two regions are mulling over the creation of tourism departments,” the minister said.In addition, the government proposed amendments to the legislation extending the allowable land lease period to 49 years in order to support tourism and recreational projects."This will help attract investment and build infrastructure for ecotourism," Myrzabosynov said.
