Baku, Astana, Tashkent agreed to launch the first stage energy cable across Caspian SeaAzerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, with the support of two leading Asian banks, have agreed to launch the first stage of the Caspian Green Energy Corridor project, the Azerbaijani Energy Ministry said in a statement."On Friday in Baku, within the framework of the 11th ministerial meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and the 3rd ministerial meeting of the Green Energy Advisory Council, a memorandum to this effect was signed between the energy ministries of the three countries, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB)," the statement said.The document envisages cooperation in preparing a feasibility study for a project aimed at uniting the energy systems of the three countries and creating a route for the supply of renewable energy to Europe.Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov described the project as strategic and historically significant, noting that the involvement of ADB and AIIB in the project will speed up the initial phase of its implementation.The minister told reporters that ADB and AIIB had provided $2 million in technical assistance to prepare a feasibility study for the project.The energy ministers of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan also stressed the importance of the green corridor as a basis for sustainable development and the export of environmentally friendly electricity from Central Asia.The initiative was a continuation of the agreement on strategic partnership in the field of development and transmission of green energy signed by the heads of state at COP29 in November 2024.
