Tokayev thanks EU for backing operation of CPC systemKazakhstan, which supplies about 13% of the EU’s crude oil imports, commends Brussels’ efforts to support stable operation of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium system (CPC), Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said at the Central Asia-European Union Summit in Samarkand on Friday."Kazakhstan-delivered crude oil accounts for about 13% of all European Union oil imports, and most of the oil from Kazakhstan is transported through the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC). We highly appreciate the European Union's support aimed at ensuring the stable and long-term functioning of this consortium; we are also exploring alternative routes for hydrocarbons transportation," Tokayev is quoted as saying by his press service.Even as it remains a reliable energy supplier, Kazakhstan is accelerating its shift toward renewables and low-carbon fuels. The president highlighted ongoing projects in wind and solar energy and green hydrogen, which are developed with European partners like TotalEnergies, Eni and Svevind."Additionally, Kazakhstan is going to embark, together with Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, on a large-scale project for the construction of a green energy transmission line across the Caspian Sea, with further access to the European markets," the Kazakh president said.
