Sinopec, KMG prepare to sign agreements to explore Berezovsky project near KarachaganakChina's Sinopec will become a strategic partner on a parity basis in the Berezovsky project in the West Kazakhstan region, the press service of National Company KazMunayGas JSC reported."As part of the search for a strategic partner for the Berezovsky project, Sinopec was qualified. The partnership includes joint implementation of the Berezovsky exploration project on a 50/50 parity basis, with Sinopec providing financing for the exploration period," KMG said in a statement.According to the national company's press service, at the meeting held in China, the parties discussed the main provisions of the planned joint activity and financing agreement, as well as accelerating the start of exploration work.It is also reported that KMG has previously carried out 2D seismic exploration in the area and identified prospects for further subsurface use. The project is associated with deep subsalt deposits of the Caspian Sedimentary Basin.The minimum work programme for the planned exploration activities includes 300 sq km of 3D seismic survey, 300 linear km of 2D seismic survey and the drilling of a 7 km exploration well. The size of the licence area is 7,576 sq km.The Berezovsky block covers parts of the Burlin, Chingirlau and Syrym districts of the West Kazakhstan region and is located 140 kilometres east of Uralsk city. The Karachaganak gas condensate field is located in the immediate vicinity of the site.KazMunaiGas is Kazakhstan's national operator for the exploration, production, processing and transportation of hydrocarbons and represents the state's interests in the oil and gas industry.
