Kazakhstan to spend 160 mln tenge on revival of Aport applesScientists from Kazakhstan’s National Agrarian Scientific and Educational Center will implement in 2025-2028 a project for the revival of the once renowned Aport apples in the Almaty region, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture said in a statement.In the following four years, as many as 25,000 saplings of the Aport apples will be planted in new orchards covering a total area of 110 hectares, according to the statement.The press service of the National Agrarian Scientific and Educational Center told Interfax-Kazakhstan that the government-run Astana-20 Fund will allocate 162.8 million tenge to finance the project.The new orchards are expected to produce first apples in an eight-year time. The scientists project an initial yield of up to 57.7 kg per tree, reaching 100 kg per mature tree later.Aport is the most popular cultivated variety of apples in Kazakhstan. It can grow as large as a baby's head and is famous for its flavor and scent throughout Kazakhstan and also in the neighboring states. The Aport apple orchards are traditionally located in the vicinity of Almaty. (ICE ALMATY)
