INDONESIA TO BRING GREEN ELECTRICITY TO PAPUA, EMPOWERING ECONOMIC GROWTH
In Papua, PT PLN (Persero), the Indonesia's state-run electricity company, has been working diligently to overcome the unique challenges posed by the region's complex terrain. Manager of the South Papua Province Electricity Project Implementation Unit, Deskiniel, emphasized the need for innovation and creativity in ensuring electricity access. Efforts include the construction of Pico Hydro Power Plants (PLTPH) and the introduction of the superSUN solar power scheme, which offers affordable solar power solutions for remote areas. These initiatives have successfully electrified numerous villages, contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future. PLN's efforts are not merely technical innovations but strategic moves to accelerate equitable economic development in Papua. Access to electricity enhances community productivity, opens new business opportunities, and supports local economic growth. The introduction of electricity is driving social and economic transformation, allowing communities to integrate into the digital economy and develop small-scale industries. By the end of 2024, PLN had supplied electricity to 893,007 customers in Papua, meeting a demand of 338.6 MW out of a total capacity of 495.8 MW. The new and renewable energy (NRE) mix in Papua reached 3.18 percent, with various NRE power plants, including hydroelectric and solar power plants, contributing to the region's energy supply.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/350525/bringing-green-electricity-to-papua-empowering-economic-growth?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=mobile&utm_campaign=latest_category (ICE GIACARTA)
