INDONESIA SEIZES STEEL EXPORT OPPORTUNITIES IN EUROPE
Indonesia's steel producers are capitalizing on global protectionism and market gaps to export steel to Europe. The global steel industry is experiencing overcapacity, leading countries to implement protective policies. However, according to the Indonesian Iron and Steel Industry Association (IISIA), geopolitical conflicts like the Russia-Ukraine war have reduced steel supply in Europe, creating opportunities for Indonesian producers. PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk. (KRAS) has successfully exported 11,600 tons of hot rolled steel to Italy and Spain, leveraging the gap left by Russian suppliers facing export restrictions. Entering the European Union steel market poses challenges due to stringent safety, quality, and environmental standards. Indonesian steel products must obtain CE Marking to meet these requirements. Krakatau Steel has prepared by meeting these standards, enhancing market confidence in its products. The Indonesian government supports these efforts through policies like Increasing the Use of Domestic Products (P3DN), Import Control through the Commodity Balance, and Determining the Price of Certain Natural Gases (HGBT), boosting the competitiveness of Indonesian steel in the international market. The success of Krakatau Steel's exports is attributed to government support and local collaboration. These exports positively impact the economy by creating jobs, increasing worker income, and fostering growth in the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) sector. President Director of Krakatau Steel, Muhamad Akbar Djohan, emphasized that the latest export demonstrates Indonesian steel's ability to compete globally. With a commitment to innovation and growth, Krakatau Steel aims to strengthen Indonesia's presence in the international steel industry, proving that hard work and innovation can lead to significant achievements.Source: https://ekonomi.bisnis.com/read/20250328/257/1865675/krakatau-steel-kras-manfaatkan-celah-ekspor-baja-ke-eropa (ICE GIACARTA)
