INDONESIA'S RENEWABLE ENERGY MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY WORTH IDR 8,824 TRILLION

The renewable energy manufacturing industry in Indonesia, spanning solar, wind, and battery sectors, has the potential to generate economic value of up to $551.5 billion (IDR 8,824 trillion) by 2060, equivalent to nearly 40% of the country’s GDP in 2024. According to a study by the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR), optimizing this sector could create up to 9.7 million jobs annually. The solar power industry, in particular, is expected to grow significantly, with Indonesia’s solar module production capacity projected to rise from 4.7 GW in 2024 to 19 GW by 2030, contributing $236.3 billion in economic potential and 5.7 million jobs per year by 2060. The wind energy industry, however, remains underdeveloped in Indonesia, with only 154.3 MW of installed capacity despite an estimated potential of 155 GW. This contrasts with the global wind sector, which added 118 GW in 2023. Expanding wind power infrastructure could add $75.2 billion to Indonesia’s economy and generate 1.8 million jobs annually by 2060. The slow adoption highlights the need for better policies and investment to tap into this untapped resource. Meanwhile, the battery industry is poised for rapid growth, driven by rising demand for electric vehicles, which is expected to surge 25 times higher than in 2022. Developing energy storage and EV battery production could contribute up to $240 billion to Indonesia’s economy and create 2.2 million jobs by 2060. IESR emphasizes the importance of strengthening the renewable energy manufacturing industry and its supply chain to meet increasing domestic and global market demands.Source: https://lestari.kompas.com/read/2025/03/27/110000286/potensi-ekonomi-industri-manufaktur-energi-terbarukan-rp-8.824-triliun-40 (ICE GIACARTA)
