KAZAKHSTAN-TOKAYEV-KALLAS-MEETING

Kaja Kallas announces visa simplification talks between EU and Kazakhstan during meeting with TokayevDuring a meeting in Astana on Friday, European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission,  Kaja Kallas, announced the launch of procedures to simplify visa issuance between the EU and Kazakhstan, according to the Kazakh president’s press office."Kazakhstan was the first in the region to sign an Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with the EU, reflecting the strong level of our bilateral relations," Kallas stated.President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev welcomed the announcement, noting that the move would open significant opportunities for strengthening interpersonal ties and business connections with European countries."The two sides also discussed prospects for expanding trade, economic cooperation, and joint infrastructure projects. "Special attention was given to priority areas such as energy, industry, and digitalization, as well as the implementation of major infrastructure projects aimed at developing the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor," the statement said.They exchanged views on pressing international and regional issues, with Tokayev emphasizing Kazakhstan's commitment to resolving global conflicts through diplomacy."Tokayev highlighted the critical importance of restraint and responsibility in assessing complex global events amid growing instability. Kazakhstan remains committed to resolving international issues and conflicts through diplomatic negotiations," the statement added.The meeting also addressed cooperation within the "Central Asia – EU" format.
