Kazakh Ministry of National Economy announces criteria for taxation of luxury goodsThe Ministry of National Economy intends to introduce additional excise taxes on elite alcohol, tobacco and motor vehicles in the amount of 10%, said Deputy Minister of National Economy Azamat Amrin."There will be no separate tax on luxury goods. There will be a separate increased tax on certain items, ... for example on expensive alcohol," Amrin said.In particular, according to him, excise taxes will be increased on cognac over 5 million tenge, tobacco, motor vehicles over 100,000 dollars.There are also plans to change the way property tax is calculated: for owners of more than three properties, the tax will be based on the total value of the property.According to Amrin, these changes are currently being included in the draft tax code.Previously, the Ministry of National Economy had planned to impose a luxury tax on properties worth more than 450 million tenge.The Ministry of National Economy also proposed to impose an income tax of 15% (instead of the current 10%) on annual incomes above 40 million tenge.They also proposed to introduce excise taxes on expensive alcohol and tobacco products, amounting to 10% of the cost.The new tax code is due to come into force in 2025.
