INDONESIA'S TRADE MINISTER: IEU-CEPA AGREEMENT NEARING SIGNATURE

The negotiation of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) has been ongoing for nine years, spanning 19 rounds. Trade Minister Budi Santoso expressed optimism that the agreement would be completed by the first semester of 2025. In addition to IEU-CEPA, the Ministry of Trade aims to finalize three other trade agreements this year: Indonesia-Peru Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IP- CEPA), indonesia-EAEU Free Trade Agreement (IEAEU-FTA), and Indonesia-Tunisia Preferential Trade Agreement (IT-PTA). IEU-CEPA encompasses three main pillars: market access for goods and services, public investment and procurement, harmonization of trade regulations, and cooperation and capacity building. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto emphasized the importance of completing the negotiations promptly to enhance trade performance between Indonesia and the EU. He also highlighted Indonesia's openness to EU investments, hoping the agreement would attract more investors to explore the Indonesian market. Despite the progress, negotiations have faced obstacles, particularly due to the European Union's new government requesting renegotiations on certain points. These include import issues, export duties, and digital transmission taxation. Airlangga noted that while the negotiations have been challenging, the completion of IEU-CEPA would provide significant opportunities for both parties.Source: https://ekonomi.bisnis.com/read/20250326/12/1864792/mendag-budi-ungkap-progres-perjanjian-ieu-cepa-kapan-diteken (ICE GIACARTA)
