China's Xinjiang Lihua to build cotton processing facility in southern KazakhstanKazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov has met with Chairman of the Xinjiang Lihua (Group) Co Ltd. Board of Directors Zhang Qihai to discuss the construction of a cotton and textile cluster worth over 200 billion tenge in southern Kazakhstan, the prime minister's press service said.The sides analyzed the progress of the investment project to create a cotton and textile cluster in the Turan special economic zone in the Turkistan region.The project aims to build a full-cycle cotton facility, which will grow cotton and make yarn, fabric, and clothing.Over 50,000 hectares of land were assigned for growing cotton. Ten plants will be built, including four cotton processing plants near the cropland, two plants to make drip irrigation systems by modern water-saving technologies, and four textile plants, including sewing, dyeing, and finishing ones. A PVC pipe manufacturing plant has already been commissioned, and construction of textile plants has begun.The investment will exceed 200 billion tenge, and more than 4,000 jobs will be created.The first facility making end products will be commissioned in October 2025.The Turkistan region is the only part of Kazakhstan that grows cotton.Xinjiang Lihua (Group) Co Ltd. is a Chinese cotton industry major, which ranks 55th among the 500 largest agricultural enterprises of China. It specializes in comprehensive cotton processing and is a full-cycle enterprise ranging from seed selection to the manufacturing of textile products. (ICE ALMATY)
