FURNITURE INDUSTRY FACES CHALLENGES
As reported by the Polish Chamber of Commerce of Furniture Manufacturers as well as B+R Studio, a provider of professional services for the furniture industry, the Polish furniture industry closed 2024 with sold production at the level of PLN64bn, which marks a 4-percent decrease y/y, and with exports lower by 6 percent y/y. Meanwhile, imports grew by more than 10 percent, with return on sales down to 5.2 percent and average employment in the sector down by more than 13 percent. As noted by Hubert Durczak, member of the Association of Wood-based Panels Producers in Poland (SPPD) furniture production plants are operating at 70 percent of their capacity as they continue to struggle with rising business costs, driven by electricity price hikes and minimum wage increases.
