INDONESIA DEVELOPS TECHNOLOGY TO CONVERT PLASTIC WASTE INTO FUEL
The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Banjarnegara Regency Government are collaborating to develop technology that converts plastic waste into fuel, known as petasol, using a fast pyrolysis (faspol) machine. This initiative aims to address plastic waste issues while providing an alternative energy source, according to BRIN's Head of Sustainable Production Systems Research, Nugroho Adi Sasongko. BRIN researchers highlight the economic and environmental benefits of petasol, emphasizing its role in the circular economy by reducing waste volume and producing cleaner fuel. Laboratory tests conducted by BRIN and the Oil and Gas Testing Center (Lemigas) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources confirmed that petasol meets fuel standards equivalent to B0 diesel oil, with quality improving when cleaner plastic waste is used. Banjarnegara Regent, Amalia Desiana, expressed appreciation for BRIN's research collaboration, viewing it as a valuable step in improving waste management in the region. She hopes for continued cooperation to expand research-based solutions for sustainable development.Source: https://katadata.co.id/ekonomi-hijau/ekonomi-sirkular/67e1184907e97/brin-kembangkan-teknologi-ubah-sampah-plastik-jadi-bahan-bakar (ICE GIACARTA)
