INDONESIA'S FISHERIES TRADE SURPLUS RISES 9.1% IN 2024
Indonesia's fisheries trade surplus increased by 9.1% in 2024, supported by a 5.7% rise in export value to US$ 5.95 billion and a 19.8% reduction in imports. The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) credited this growth to the strong global demand for Indonesian fishery products and strategic efforts to enhance industry competitiveness. According to Director General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fisheries Products (PDS), Tornanda Syaifullah, these positive trends reflect Indonesia’s ability to expand its market reach while improving trade efficiency. Key export commodities included shrimp (US$ 1.68 billion), tuna-skipjack (USD 1.03 billion), and squid-cuttlefish-octopus (US$ 874.12 million), together accounting for a significant portion of the total export value. Notable growth was recorded in tuna-skipjack exports, which rose by 11.6%, squid-cuttlefish-octopus by 14.6%, and hairtail by an exceptional 91.1%. The United States remained Indonesia’s top export market at US$ 1.90 billion (32% of total exports), followed by China (US$ 1.24 billion), ASEAN (US$ 856.87 million), Japan (US$ 598.75 million), and the European Union (US$ 414.36 million). Exports to ASEAN, the EU, and China saw significant increases, with growth rates of 28.3%, 23.6%, and 9.2%, respectively, compared to the previous year. This upward trend highlights Indonesia’s expanding presence in international fisheries trade and the effectiveness of government initiatives aimed at boosting exports. The continued diversification of export destinations and rising demand for key commodities reinforce Indonesia’s strategic positioning as a major global supplier of fishery products.Source: https://industri.kontan.co.id/news/ekspor-meningkat-surplus-neraca-perdagangan-perikanan-2024-naik-91 (ICE GIACARTA)
