Astana, Moscow discuss transit of Russian coal to China via KazakhstanKazakhstan and Russia have discussed developing the North-South route and the transit of Russian coal to China via Kazakhstan, the press service of Kazakhstan's Transport Ministry said.The two countries' respective transport ministers, Marat Karabayev from Kazakhstan and Roman Starovoit from Russia, Russia's Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev, as well as the heads of JSC Kazakhstan Railways (Temir Zholy) and OJSC Russian Railways, were involved in the corresponding negotiations in Moscow."The railway companies from the two countries held a number of meetings, including with the participation of Russian coal companies, ahead of the meeting. Considerable interest was expressed in transportation via Kazakhstan during the discussions, as the route is a popular and promising alternative," according to the press release following the talks.The respective parties discussed prospects for strengthening the partnership, improving the efficiency of transportation, and developing transport and logistics infrastructure between the two countries during the meeting.
