KazRosGas, KPO discuss impact of CPC-related risks on gas supplies to Orenburg Gas Processing PlantKazRosGas and Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (KPO), the operator of Karachaganak, discussed the impact of the situation with the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) on KPO's plans to supply gas to the Orenburg Gas Processing Plant, the KazRosGas press service reported."The main topic of discussion was the prospects for the sale of Karachaganak gas, as well as the impact of the current challenges related to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) on KPO's plans to supply raw gas to the Orenburg Gas Processing Plant," the statement issued after the talks said.On February 17 of this year, a number of drones stuffed with explosives and metal pellets hit the Kropotkinskaya pumping station.Transneft, a consortium shareholder, said that Kazakh oil transportation through the CPC pipeline would decrease by approximately 30% because of the pumping station's repairs, and it would take up to two months to fix the damage.Over 63 million tonnes of oil, about 90% of it coming from Kazakhstan, were pumped through Kropotkinskaya in 2024.Tengizchevroil (TCO) continues uninterrupted supply of oil through the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) system, a Tengizchevroil representative told Interfax.The 1,511-kilometer CPC pipeline, connecting oil fields in western Kazakhstan and Russian offshore fields in the Caspian Sea to a marine terminal in Novorossiysk, is the main export route for Kazakh oil, accounting for more than 80% of Kazakhstan's pipeline crude exports. The pipeline can now carry 72.5 million tonnes of crude from Kazakhstan and up to 83 million tonnes through Russia.The CPC pumped 63.01 million tonnes of oil in 2024, which is a 0.7% decrease from 2023. According to Kazakhstan's Energy Ministry, the volume of Kazakh oil transportation through the CPC system in 2024 totaled nearly 55 million tonnes.Since 2002, Gazprom and KazMunayGas have been cooperating within the framework of KazRosGas, a joint venture established on a parity basis to purchase gas from the Karachaganak field, process it at the Orenburg Gas Processing Plant, and sell it to consumers in Kazakhstan and Russia. A long-term contract for the purchase and sale of gas from the Karachaganak field was signed between Karachaganak Petroleum Operating BV and KazRosGas in 2007 and extended in 2015 until 2038.The CPC's shareholders are Russia and Transneft with 31%, Kazakhstan with 20.75% (represented by KazMunayGas with 19% and Kazakhstan Pipeline Ventures LLC with 1.75%), Chevron Caspian Pipeline Consortium Company with 15%, Lukoil International GmbH with 12.5%, Mobil Caspian Pipeline Company with 7.5%, Rosneft-Shell Caspian Ventures Limited with 7.5%, BG Overseas Holding Limited with 2%, Eni International N.A. N.V. with 2%, and Oryx Caspian Pipeline LLC with 1.75%. (ICE ALMATY)
