CROATIA RECORDS LARGEST DROP IN EU INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION IN NOVEMBER 2024

According to data released on 22 January by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union (EU), Croatia recorded the largest annual drop in industrial production in the EU in November 2024, at 6.6%, following a 2% decline in October, significantly exceeding the EU's average annual decrease of 1.7%, Croatian media report. On a monthly basis, Croatia's industrial production fell by 2.4% compared to October, closely followed by Cyprus with a 2.6% decline.Revised data for October revealed a 1.1% decrease in industrial production in the eurozone and a 0.6% drop across the European Union (EU). In November, the most significant annual declines in both regions were recorded in the production of capital goods, which fell by 2.8% in the eurozone and 2.6% in the EU. Additionally, intermediate goods production dropped by 2.6% in the eurozone and 1.9% in the EU. The only sector to experience growth was non-durable consumer goods, which increased marginally by 0.1% in the EU.Croatia faced the steepest annual decline in industrial production among EU member states, plunging by 6.6% in November, following a 2% drop in October. This performance underscores the challenges faced by Croatia's industrial sector amid broader regional declines. Ireland and Austria recorded annual drops of 5.6% and 5%, respectively. On the other hand, Malta experienced a remarkable 13.5% increase in industrial production compared to November 2023, followed by Belgium with an 8.7% rise.Monthly data showed industrial production in the eurozone increased by 0.2% in November, maintaining October's growth rate. However, the EU recorded a significant slowdown, with production rising by only 0.1%, down from a 0.4% increase the previous month. These figures highlight the uneven recovery within the EU, with Croatia struggling to reverse its negative trend amidst a challenging economic environment. (ICE ZAGABRIA)
