ADC, APM TERMINALS SIGN $242 MILLION AGREEMENT TO DEVELOP AQABA CONTAINER TERMIN
Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC) signed a joint development and management agreement with APM Terminals, a leading global port operator, to expand and manage Aqaba Container Terminal with a direct investment of $242 million.According to Jordan News Agency (Petra), the agreement aims to boost Aqaba’s regional and international competitiveness, enhancing its ability to attract foreign investments and solidifying its role as a vital hub for trade and supply chains.The agreement includes $242 million in foreign direct investment, with most projects expected to be completed before the end of 2031.This collaboration with APM Terminals, a key subsidiary of the global shipping giant MAERSK, will elevate Aqaba’s competitiveness by linking it with international shipping routes, facilitating trade between Jordan and global ports, and boosting national exports.The agreement will increase Aqaba’s container terminal capacity to over 1.7 million TEUs, ensuring that Jordan’s trade demands are met for the next two decades, including transit trade for neighbouring countries.The agreement includes infrastructure upgrades, aimed at reducing carbon emissions, with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040.
