POLAND TO RECEIVE EUR 112 MLN IN EU FUNDS TO SUPPORT RAIL NETWORK
The European Commission (EC) has approved a EUR 112 million programme under the Polish National Recovery Plan (KPO), aimed at facilitating rail network interoperability.The EC wrote on Tuesday that the aid scheme was designed "to promote the shift of freight and passenger transport from road to rail and to improve the security and efficiency of rail transport."It will be funded through the post-pandemic Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) and disbursed under the KPO, the EC added."Under the scheme, the aid will take the form of direct grants to railway companies and owners of rolling stock for the acquisition and installation of ERTMS (the European Railway Traffic Management System - PAP) on-board equipment," EC reported.According to the EC, ERTMS aims to standardize European rail systems, making it easier for trains to cross borders and boosting rail competitiveness.
