CONSIDERABLE DECLINE IN INTERMODAL TRANSPORT

The Office of Rail Transport (UTK) has reported that in 2023, intermodal transport carried 24.5 million tonnes of freight, which represents a decrease by 6.3 percent compared with 2022, with transport performance of intermodal cargo at 8.5 tonne-km, down by 1.5 percent y/y. The data released by the UTK also show that throughout 2023, railway carriers transported 1.59 million units of cargo, of which 1.49 million units were containers, with the number of transported units down by 9.1 percent y/y. Commenting on the report, UTS’s President Ignacy Góra stressed that the data for both 2022 and 2023 showed that intermodal transport was vulnerable to economic and political events. (ICE VARSAVIA)
