SAUDI ARABIA TENDERS WATER PIPELINE CONTRACTS

The state-backed Water Transmission & Technologies Company (WTTCO) has tendered two water transmission pipeline contracts in Saudi Arabia. The first contract entails the implementation of a water transmission pipeline linking Ghazalah and Maysan in Hail. The 30-kilometre (km) pipeline will have a diameter of 24 inches. The project also entails the construction of two water storage tanks with capacities of 4,000-10,000 cubic metres, including associated facilities such as valves and control and operations equipment. WTTCO expects to receive bids for the contract by 19 May. WTTCO also invited companies to bid for a contract to build a water transmission system in Badr Al Janoub in the Najran region. The planned 46km pipeline network will have a diameter of 16 inches and the capacity to transmit 6,000 cubic metres of water. The contract includes the construction of a storage tank with a capacity of 40,000 cubic metres. The client expects to receive proposals for this contract by 8 July. Formed in 2019, WTTCO is responsible for managing, operating and maintaining water transmission, storage and dispatch systems across the kingdom.  The responsibility for procuring several water transmission pipeline projects in Saudi Arabia has been transferred from the state water offtaker, Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC), to WTTCO.  The procurement model for the following water transmission pipeline projects has also shifted from build-operate-transfer to engineering, procurement and construction: Jizan-Al Shuqaiq Tabuk-Ula Rabigh-Jeddah Ras Al Kahir-Hafar Issued last year, SWPC's latest Seven-Year Planning Statement, covering the years 2022-28, specified 10 independent water transmission pipeline projects, including those mentioned above. The projects have the capacity to transmit a total of 4.9 million cubic metres of water a day over 3,205km.  The publication of SWPC's planning statement is understood to have preceded the transfer of the procurement of the four projects to WTTCO.  WTTCO issued the main contract tender for the Jizan-Shuqaig water transmission pipeline project in October 2023.    (ICE RIYADH)
