PRESIDENT JOKOWI PROMISES TO PERSUADE PRABOWO TO WORK ON "IDLE" SHRIMP PONDS
President Joko Widodo is encouraging the use of 78,000 hectares of former shrimp pond land on the north coast of Java as a saltwater tilapia cultivation pond. The area, which has been idle or left without work, is estimated to cost IDR 13 trillion to manage. The project aims to transport a large workforce and open up job opportunities.Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono highlighted that saline tilapia cultivation ponds are a model in the north coast area of Java, with 78,000 hectares of ponds in the North Pantura being idle as former tiger prawn ponds. The market value of tilapia is high, and the President believes that with this saline tilapia cultivation, 78,000 hectares can be cultivated and produce 4 million tons per year. The world market demand for tilapia is expected to reach 14.4 billion US dollars, or approximately IDR 230 trillion, in 2024, making it crucial to exploit this potential demand. However, idle ponds have become a concern for the President, who requested that tilapia production in the Pantura Islands be done on a modeling scale first. If the modeling is correct, the usual 1 hectare is only 0.6 tonnes per hectare to around 80 tonnes per hectare, which would later be able to transport and open up huge job opportunities.Link di fonte: https://www.kompas.id/baca/ekonomi/2024/05/08/presiden-jokowi-janji-bujuk-prabowo-garap-tambak-udang-nganggur (ICE GIACARTA)
