BAPPENAS AND EU RESEARCHERS STUDY INDONESIA'S RUBBER VALUE CHAIN

Indonesia's National Development Planning (Bappenas) Ministry and a team of European and Indonesian researchers are conducting a study to strengthen Indonesia’s rubber value chain, covering everything from smallholder production and processing to marketing and market access. The initiative is part of the Value Chain Analysis for Development (VCA4D) program and supports Indonesia’s 2025–2029 development strategy to expand downstream industries and increase domestic value added. According to Haekal Heriyanto from Bappenas’ Food and Agriculture Directorate, the study focuses on improving rubber productivity, enhancing raw-rubber quality, strengthening farmer organizations and processing units, expanding downstream industries, and improving access to international markets. Sustainability is also a key priority as global buyers increasingly require traceability and deforestation-free products. As part of the research, the team visited the Rubber Research Center at the Sungei Putih Research Unit in North Sumatra to assess local industry conditions and gather input from stakeholders. Researchers emphasized that rubber-producing regions face different challenges, requiring tailored policy solutions rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. The study will also examine farmer empowerment, marketing systems, and collaboration among producers, traders, processors, and cooperatives. Further field visits are planned in South Sumatra, with the goal of producing practical recommendations to strengthen Indonesia’s rubber industry, boost competitiveness, and create greater value for farmers and businesses.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/439243/bappenas-eu-researchers-study-indonesias-rubber-value-chain (ICE GIACARTA)
