Indonesia has clarified its new rare earth export policy, stating that the export ban will apply only to pure rare earth products, while commodities such as nickel, tin, alumina, copper cathodes, and other derivatives containing trace amounts of rare earth elements can still be exported. The government is currently working to establish specific thresholds for rare earth content, along with testing, verification, and reporting procedures, to provide legal certainty for exporters, customs authorities, and surveyors during the transition period. The clarification has helped resolve export disruptions caused by differing interpretations of the rules. More than 100 export vessels that had been delayed have resumed operations, and state-owned surveyor Sucofindo has been authorized to issue 85 previously delayed surveyor reports. The government emphasized that enforcement should remain strict but based on clear regulations, reliable laboratory testing, and interagency coordination.
