The Government's Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Schemes continue to strengthen India's manufacturing ecosystem by attracting substantial investments, boosting exports and creating employment across strategic sectors. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Mr. Jitin Prasada stated that the PLI Schemes, covering 14 key sectors with an approved outlay of Rs. 1.91 lakh crore (US$ 20.32 billion) have attracted over Rs. 2.40 lakh crore (US$ 25.55 billion) in actual investments and generated more than 14.15 lakh direct and indirect jobs as of 31 March 2026. The initiatives have also enabled cumulative exports exceeding Rs. 15.2 lakh crore (US$ 161.70 billion) since their inception, highlighting India's growing integration with global value chains. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade continues to coordinate implementation across sectors, while periodic reviews are undertaken to enhance the effectiveness of the schemes. The PLI Schemes have delivered significant sector-specific outcomes, particularly in electronics, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, telecommunications, white goods, automobiles, food processing, textiles, specialty steel and renewable energy. Mobile phone production has increased 2.4 times since the launch of the scheme, while imports have declined by around 77%, with 99.2% of mobile phones used in India now manufactured domestically. The pharmaceutical sector has recorded cumulative sales exceeding Rs. 3.64 lakh crore (US$ 38.72 billion) and enabled the domestic production of 1,931 pharmaceutical products, including 191 bulk drugs manufactured in India for the first time. Continued improvements in manufacturing capacity, localisation of critical components, stakeholder consultations and policy refinements are expected to accelerate investments, strengthen domestic value chains, enhance export competitiveness and reinforce India's emergence as a global manufacturing hub.Disclaimer: This information has been collected through secondary research and IBEF is not responsible for any errors in the same.https://www.ibef.org/news/pli-schemes-attract-us-25-55-billion-investment-generate-14-15-lakh-jobs (ICE MUMBAI)
