Kazakh PM urges Astana Motors to speed up construction of BYD electric vehicle plantPrime Minister Olzhas Bektenov has instructed Astana Motors to accelerate construction of a BYD electric vehicle plant in Kazakhstan, an Interfax-Kazakhstan correspondent reported."We want a BYD plant to open in Kazakhstan, and the government will provide the necessary support. I urge you to accelerate this project," Bektenov told Astana Group chairman Nurlan Smagulov.Smagulov said production of BYD passenger cars is expected to begin next year."We do need to start producing BYD vehicles to meet consumer demand," he said.During the Kazakh president's visit to China, Astana Motors and BYD signed a distribution agreement for new energy vehicles.Astana Motors is a Kazakhstani automotive manufacturer and part of the Astana Group. Astana Motors' production divisions include a Hyundai Trans Almaty commercial vehicle plant, a Hyundai Trans Kazakhstan passenger car plant, an Automotive Components Technology Park (producing seats and multimedia systems for vehicles), and Astana Motors Manufacturing Kazakhstan (a full-cycle plant in Almaty producing Chery, Changan, and Great Wall Motor (Haval and Tank) passenger cars).
