INDONESIA AIMS TO BECOME GLOBAL PALM OIL INNOVATION HUB

Indonesia is working to establish itself as a global center for palm oil research and innovation, aiming to strengthen downstream development through continuous technological advances. At the Indonesian Palm Oil Research Week (PERISAI 2026), President Director of the Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP) under the Ministry of Finance, Eddy Abdurachman, highlighted the importance of a robust research ecosystem to drive sustainable industry transformation. The event brought together 1,300 participants from government, academia, industry, and farming communities, showcasing opportunities in palm oil-based food, biojet fuel, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. BPDP presented 24 research outcomes and 10 student-led innovations, emphasizing collaboration and commercialization as key to boosting competitiveness. Since the launch of the Palm Oil Research Grant Program in 2015, BPDP has supported 466 research contracts across 109 institutions, resulting in 395 publications and 84 patents. In 2026, the agency signed 56 new contracts, including studies on coconut development and B50 biodiesel readiness. Human resource development is also central, with scholarships awarded to over 13,000 students and partnerships with 44 universities. More than 100 research projects have already entered commercialization, while farmer training initiatives ensure innovations reach the grassroots level. This integrated approach reflects Indonesia’s ambition to lead in sustainable palm oil technology, balancing industrial growth with societal benefits.Source: https://rri.co.id/en/business/2583193/indonesia-aims-to-become-global-palm-oil-innovation-hub (ICE GIACARTA)
