Kazakhstan blocks import of over 200 tonnes of contaminated grain from RussiaKazakh inspectors have blocked the import of more than 200 tonnes of wheat and barley from Russia after finding the shipments contaminated with dangerous weed seeds, the Agriculture Ministry said Saturday.The imported grain was detained in the Aktobe, West Kazakhstan and Kostanay regions for violating plant quarantine and phytosanitary requirements. Inspectors found dangerous quarantine objects including giant ragweed, creeping knapweed and dodder.More than 128 tonnes of the shipment were returned to Russia. Authorities filed administrative cases against the cargo owners, and case materials have been sent to court for prosecution under Kazakh law. (ICE ALMATY)
