UKRAINIAN BUSINESSES REMAIN OPTIMISTIC AS ECONOMIC EXPECTATIONS STRENGTHEN

Ukrainian enterprises are showing optimism regarding their performance for the third month in a row. According to the NBU, the business activity expectations index (BIEA) increased to 52.1 points in May, up from 51.7 in April (50.8 in May last year). The positive mood across most sectors was supported by a stable energy sector, steady international financial assistance, a revival in consumer demand, improved inflation expectations, and seasonal factors.Construction posted the highest ratings among all sectors for the third month in a row. This has been facilitated by budget financing for road construction, the restoration of damaged infrastructure, high domestic demand, and seasonality. The industry has seen its positive ratings improve due to strong demand and a stable energy supply.Industrialists expect an increase in production volumes and new orders, particularly export orders. Trade is the only sector that has assessed its activity with restraint. The main reasons are rising fuel prices, exchange rate fluctuations, and, as a result, higher costs for Ukrainian companies. In general, respondents from all sectors predict a slowdown in the growth rates of both purchase prices and tariffs for their products or services.https://ubn.news/ukrainian-business-predicts-a-slowdown-in-price-growth-and-more-orders/ (ICE KIEV)
