OECD: RECORD FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT IN GREECE IN 2025

Foreign direct investment in Greece reached a record high in 2025, according to data released by the OECD, totalling 12.8 billion dollars, by far the highest level in the past 20 years. Foreign direct investment last year was 69% higher than in 2024 and more than 50% higher than in 2022, when the previous record (8.4 billion dollars) was set.The surge in foreign investment, which plays a significant role in economic growth, occurred during a period in which geopolitical turmoil and the US trade war had sharply increased uncertainty.In the European Union, foreign direct investment fell by 6% in 2025, while globally it rose by 15% to 1.66 trillion dollars. As for the sectors to which foreign direct investment is directed, services dominate, followed by manufacturing with smaller shares, while inflows into the agricultural sector are minimal. As for the rate of return on foreign direct investment in Greece, in 2023 it was over 6%, roughly the same as in the UK, Germany and France. (ICE ATENE)
