INDONESIA CONFIRMS FORESTRY INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR CARBON TRADING

Indonesia’s Ministry of Forestry is emphasizing growing investment opportunities in the forestry sector, especially in carbon trading aligned with international standards. Officials highlight that the country has entered a new phase in the carbon market, supported by stronger political commitment and clearer regulations, particularly Minister of Forestry Regulation No. 6 of 2026. This regulation simplifies business processes and expands mechanisms for carbon economic value instruments, including the nesting scheme, which helps ensure environmental integrity, avoid double counting, and build investor confidence. The government aims to meet rising global demand for high-quality, high-integrity carbon credits. At the same time, Indonesia is promoting large-scale climate initiatives to attract investors, including plans to restore or rehabilitate 12 million hectares of critical land and reduce emissions across tens of millions of hectares of forests, social forestry areas, and customary land. These efforts were presented at international climate forums and align with global carbon market expectations such as compliance with international standards and the Core Carbon Principles. Overall, the government seeks to boost carbon credit investment while ensuring benefits for biodiversity protection and local communities.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/416869/ministry-confirms-forestry-investment-opportunities-for-carbon-trading (ICE GIACARTA)
