INDONESIA: PALU SEZ SECURES US$1.75 BLN INVESTMENT FOR BATTERY & LNG PROJECTS

IThe Palu Special Economic Zone has secured US$1.75 billion (around IDR 30.92 trillion) in planned investments for a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Gigafactory and an LNG Hub. The MoU between PT Bangun Palu Sulawesi Tengah and Aslan Energy Capital was signed in Jakarta on May 11, 2026. The BESS project is expected to create 1,300 direct jobs and over 3,000 indirect jobs, with an initial production capacity of 8 GWh annually, expanding to 12–15 GWh in later stages. It will support Indonesia’s nickel-based battery industry, renewable energy integration, EV charging infrastructure, and exports to ASEAN, Australia, and the US. The investment is seen as a major boost to the competitiveness of the Palu SEZ and Indonesia’s clean energy ecosystem. Acting Secretary-General Rizal Edwin Manansang emphasized the multiplier effect on regional and national growth. Alongside the gigafactory, the LNG Hub will leverage Central Sulawesi’s abundant nickel reserves and mining commodities, with Pantoloan Port providing strong logistical advantages. Together, these projects strengthen Indonesia’s battery industry, clean energy supply chain, and position the Palu SEZ as a strategic hub for energy and industrial exports.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/6658/business-and-investment/palu-sez-secures-us-1-75-billion-investment-for-battery-and-lng-projects (ICE GIACARTA)
