Indonesia is accelerating its domestic electric bus industry by tightening local-content requirements (TKDN) and promoting battery-powered public transport. Industry Ministry official Mahardi Tunggul Wicaksono noted that nine local manufacturers are already producing electric buses and trucks, with some models surpassing 40% TKDN levels. The government is revising regulations to strengthen local-content rules and will continue offering TKDN-based incentives to support clean-energy transition. Regional governments are beginning to shift fleets to electric buses, signaling broader support for transport electrification. Indonesia’s automotive sector, which includes 41 vehicle manufacturers with a 2.5 million-unit annual capacity, has attracted IDR 163 trillion (around US$9.2 billion) in investment and employs over 69,000 workers.
